DMAS is proud to offer health and wellness programs that include tools and resources to help every employee enjoy a high quality and healthy lifestyle.

Health care

DMAS understands that every employee has different needs for health care, so we offer five different health plan options to assist you with your choice of the right coverage.

The Commonwealth of Virginia group health benefits program offers COVA Care, COVA HealthAware, and the COVA HDHP (High Deductible Health Plan) statewide to full-time and part-time classified employees, early retirees and certain family members. The Kaiser Permanente regional health maintenance organization is available to members in Northern Virginia only. TRICARE Supplement is available for retired military personnel who are also eligible for the State Health Benefits Program.

Flexible spending accounts (FSA) are available to employees eligible for healthcare benefits. FSAs are utilized for health care and dependent care expenses. More information about Flexible Spending Accounts is located in the FSA Sourcebook.

Open enrollment

Open enrollment is the time each year to make changes to your health benefits plan, add or remove family members, or waive state health coverage. You may also enroll in a flexible spending account (FSA).

Important dates to remember:

Open enrollment is from May 1st-May 15^th.
Changes made during open enrollment for health care plans are effective July 1st.

DMAS cares about your good health. When you are healthy, you have the energy, focus to work, and live well. Changes in your lifestyle can have a big impact on your health.
