Our Agency Director
I joined Virginia's Medicaid agency while still in graduate school, and I knew I had found my calling in life. The work we do here touches the lives of 1.4 million Virginians every day, offering them access to health coverage, and the services and supports they need for better health and well-being. If you want to be an agent for health equity, the Department of Medical Assistance Services is the best agency for you to pursue your career in the ever-changing field of health care!
We are DMAS - Medicaid in Virginia
One of twelve state agencies under the Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources, DMAS is the agency that administers the Commonwealth's Medicaid and CHIP/FAMIS programs, providing access to health care for the most vulnerable, including children of eligible families. (The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in Virginia is called Family Access to Medical Insurance Security, or FAMIS).
Our agency mission is to improve the health and well-being of Virginians through access to quality health care coverage.
Our DMAS values establish a framework to act as guiding principles to achieve our agency mission. Those values include: Service, Collaboration, Trust, Adaptability and Problem Solving.
